KINE-P 246
Performance and Teaching of Cardiovascular & Resistance Training

Leading Others
In KINE-P 246, I learned so many valuable skills that I will carry with me throughout my time here at IUI and my career. We started the semester creating workout plans in a gym setting. My classmates and I designed workouts for a specific demographic. For example, I created a 45-minute workout for active elderly people. When creating this workout, I had to think about modifications I could have on hand if my clients were experiencing pain in a specific area. Making modifications for every exercise helped me become aware of different exercises that still work the same muscles on the body. It was so important for me to figure out how my classmates like to workout. I soon discovrered that they like to work in groups with people they are comfortable with. To make sure everyone was staying on track, I made sure to be present the entire workout and walk around so I was able to check in with everybody. Getting feedback from my classmates helped me improve and dig deeper into my lesson plans.
Reflection
Throughout the semester, I have grown as an individual. This course has helped me become more confident and knowledgable leader. I quickly discovered that my classmates need to be entertained in order for them to stay on track with the exercises they were given. I became more knowledgable about what order exercises are supposed to go in, how important a warm-up/cool down is, and so much more. Once I became comfortable with my classmates, I became more positive and assertive. My classmates responded very well to motivational cues such as, "Way to go!" or "You are almost done, keep pushing!" I remembered to incorporate these cues throughout the 45-minute workout, and I saw significant improvements with the overall quality of my classmates workouts. Ultimately, this class has taught me so many skills that I will use throughout my career as a PT.

403 Summary
In KINE-P 403, I learned valuable information specifically about cardio. The information I learned will allow me to make an impact on my future clients lives. I have participated in multiple labs that have taught me how to lead and teach others. A few of my favorite labs I was fortunate enough to participate in were the water aerobics class, cycling class, and the beat-based workout class! Learning how to teach, modify exercises, and be a fun class instructor is very important to me, and this class taught me how to accomplish all three of those things. This learning experience was significant to me because I now know how to teach and lead a beat based workout such as Zumba. Finding exciting ways to incorporate cardio into a clients life can change a life! This class also taught me how to create workout plans for a specific client/athlete. I have created a workout plan for someone training to run a 5K, a plan for a client walking a 5K, and a beat-based cardio class. Being creative and allowing the client to enjoy themself while still giving them a beneficial workout is crucial. A lab that I featured to the left is a Home Cardio and Resistance Training Program that I created for a client. This is just one example of a workout that I formulated for an individual.

Learning Experinces
One significant learning experience for KINE-P 403 that stood out to me was creating the workout video. Working with my classmates to design and teach a beat-based workout class allowed me to use my creativity, prior knowledge, and leadership skills to help someone else incorporate cardio into their exercise routine. We chose to teach a beat-based workout because it is new and exciting to most people, which could entice them to try a new form of cardio. We worked as a team to successfully create a beat-based workout for our class! Something I didn't know I could do is juggle! We had a guest speaker who came in and taught my class and I all about juggling and the neural adaptations involved with juggling.

This year, I have found more time in my schedule to dedicate to volunteer hurdle coaching at my high school in my community. Applying what I have learned so far at IUI in the real world with a real team is something that I am very proud of. I am very fortunate that I am able to teach high school athletes about nutrition, the importance of cardio exercise, proper technique, possible modifications, and so much more. I enjoy that I am able to work with individuals who are passionate to be the best athlete and person they can be!
