Service Learning
In this section, I will share how volunteering and community service has impacted my life.
Service Learning Project
The service learning project I completed with my first year seminar was overall a great experience. Service learning to me means serving your community, reflecting on your experience, and committing to something. Our project was made for us to be able to get out and serve our community along with making connections with people. I enjoy volunteering and being able to connect with my new community in Indianapolis. Meeting new people and making a difference is important to me. I learned that service learning can be more than just "volunteer hours." Participating in service learning taught me how to be selfless and grateful.
I chose to work with Down's Syndrome Indiana for my service learning project. My classmates and I helped set up for an event. We organized chairs, moved tables, and organized the area for the Down's Syndrome Indiana Buddy Walk. Making their lives easier by doing a lot of the heavy lifting brought me joy. Everyone was so grateful for our help, and working with Down's Syndrome Indiana was overall such a great experience. I would 100% consider working with them again. They are such a great organization, and they benefit so many children and families.
